Creating new skills and learning opportunities for young people, and those looking for a career change, will be a priority for me if elected as East Midlands Mayor next year.
Further Education rarely gets the funding or attention it deserves – until there’s a skills shortage. I want to create new opportunities for learners in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and ensure they are provided with the tools to achieve their career aspirations, developing our further education offer through partnership working with trade unions, local businesses, innovators and the broader community.
That’s why I was delighted to be invited to visit Newark College, chat to their team, and take a look around the Air and Space Institute, a state-of-the-art aviation training facility that will open in early September 2024.
