Dame Margaret Beckett MP has thrown her considerable weight and support behind Claire’s bid to be Labour’s first East Midlands Mayor.
Dame Margaret said: “I am pleased to see a good list of candidates, but having first worked with Claire when she joined the NEC as youth representative at the age of 19, I know her strengths and talents. I am endorsing Claire, as I know she will make a great Mayor for our region.”
Claire Ward said: “Dame Margaret is a titan of the Labour movement. First female Foreign Secretary, Leader of the Opposition, and Commons Leader. It means the world that she’s supporting my campaign to be East Midlands Mayor.”
