Alongside Labour colleagues, I stood up for Alstom workers in Parliament yesterday (Wednesday 6 December). We’re facing the real possibility that Derby will lose thousands of jobs connected to the rail industry. We cannot let this happen.

Alstom finish the manufacturing of programmes at end of January – so in six weeks they could go from an annual output of 650 cars employing 3,000 people to zero. Those working at Alstom and the companies who rely in its supply chain, could lose their jobs if the Tory government continues to dither. We want to be building trains in Britain not importing from abroad but that’s what will happen unless we see action.
