If I’m fortunate enough to be elected East Midlands mayor, I will get on and do what matters for the people of Nottingham. For too long, our politicians have been out themselves putting their friends and vested interests first. I am determined to do things differently, making sure the most vulnerable in our society are taken care of. That’s why I pulled together a homelessness summit to work out how we get our fellow citizens off the streets.
Organisations from across the region, including YMCA, Canaan Trust, Framework, Emmanuel House, and The Friary shared their thoughts on how the new mayor can lead on this hugely important issue.

Baroness Louise Casey who chaired the event said: “In 1999, I was appointed the country’s first ever homelessness tsar. With the help of local communities, we managed to bring the number of homeless people in Nottingham and Derby down to almost zero.
“The new East Midlands mayor will have a real opportunity to use their new powers around housing to address to stop our fellow citizens ending up sleeping on the streets. I know that Claire Ward cares passionately about this too and I’m proud to be supporting her.”
